Katy Perry beating Taylor Swift to be Forbes' most-paid artist in 2018 might appeal to those who love lowgrade pop. The actual drama, and possible threat to Taylor Swift's status lies further in Forbes' top 10. At No 8 just below Rihanna and just ahead of Celine Dion, and Britney Spears is Helene Fischer. Who? There is one thing that's certain, a German-Russian super-star who doesn't speak out in order to maintain the look of an ordinary woman. She has revealed in many interviews that she enjoys butter and her German boyfriend, a TV personality, had her image tattooed to his arm. Fischer 34 is considered to be the center in Germany's Schlager scene. Her sound is very versatile and tends in two directions. The song in the first is a more bierhalle beat that moves through the subject matter of alcohol girls as well as the German. Fischer is the opposite of it: the faithful wife whose breath is stopped and the heart stops as she thinks of her husband playing his vulnerability as a woman up to incite protection instincts. Schlager reverted to traditional themes to counter the Western pop which had swept through Germany. It has remained popular due to its popularity with baby boomers and the rest of us which is served well by infinite Schlager TV specials Fischer presents one every Christmas, a lavish all-star show that has Jools Annual hootenanny look like Channel 4s Club X. Schlager Country, with its country origins and down-to-earth vibe is the spiritual counterpart to this genre. Its raucous synth-pop style makes it as though she was German Taylor Swift. Swifts evolutive musical style has made her cool, whereas Fischer's music is completely awful.
